Skimping on an adequate lunch and as a result reco Skimping on an adequate lunch and as a result recovering poorly, having an energy slump, and getting an attitude with your fam after school and work?

All it takes is 5 minutes people! With 3 meals and a protein rich snack, this might be plenty. If not, increase the tempeh serving size from 3 ounces to 5!
“I have more energy when I don’t have carbs” = lie “I have more energy when I don’t have carbs” = lies. They’re your preferred energy for your muscles and your brain. Lack of them is a rate limiting factor for exercise intensity and duration.

If you’re looking for carnivore confirmation bias, don’t shoot the messenger. I’m just a sports dietitian, I don’t make the rules. I just help people help themselves perform better.
Active clients are often questioning their rest da Active clients are often questioning their rest day hunger when working with us. What should be happening is looking at rest days as an opportunity to pause and more consciously support nutrient gaps created on training days.

This isn’t just a tip for athletes, but maybe even more so for incredibly busy working parents and caretakers who are prioritizing workouts; too.

If you need support, KJN has 4 performance dietitians ready to help.
Even if you aren’t knowledgeable on gut health, th Even if you aren’t knowledgeable on gut health, the way this was explained should just lead you to call BS. Fiber is literally the part of plants that the body cannot digest and absorb. Not “hard to digest” like resistant starch. *non-digestible*. Period.

Might certain raw (or cooked) veggies be harder for people with diagnosable GI disorders to tolerate? For sure. Maybe she has one and hasn’t figured that out yet… but that doesn’t mean salads are bad for gut health.

Insoluble fiber - like the type we find in salads and many veggies - is associated with a reduced risk of constipation, diverticulitis, and most importantly a reduced risk of colorectal cancer.

When 90%+ of Americans are not meeting minimum fiber recommendations, I can promise you salads aren’t what’s hurting our gut health. Trust a dietitian and eat more plants while also drinking more water.
People on social media (and traditional media jour People on social media (and traditional media journalists) have some opinions on oat milk! As a sports dietitian I can tell you that for the most part, the negative press isn’t valid. Oat milk isn’t, in fact, the cause of heart disease, inflammation, and all the chronic diseases Americans face.

From a performance perspective for athletes, this is an area where science hasn’t shifted. Studies repeatedly show that carbs and caffeine help optimize physical performance. When it comes to pitching and focus, carbs are the preferred energy for the brain and caffeine may also aid focus.

Even if you’re not an athlete, a rise in blood sugar after consuming carbs isn’t a “spike”, it’s just a normal response to absorbing what you’ve eaten. Then, your blood helps deliver the energy to cells for use.

Oatmilk also has 1-2 grams of fiber, which will slow absorption a tad.
Plus, if you’re not having your oat milk latte with a protein and fiber content rich snack or meal, if may not be as satiating, so consider your appetite later and make adjustments if that’s the right move for you.
Stereotypical dietitian over here, just overly exc Stereotypical dietitian over here, just overly excited about full grocery trips after being a minimalist the last 5 months! Still have cabinet mishaps to wrap up and backsplash after that, but having new appliances and our sink back is life changing.

Costco was out of the Seven Sundays chocolate sunflower cereal and Tatooed Chef frozen veggies we love, but this restock was super satisfying!

The normal grocery empty fridge glow up that preceded this to be shared soon too. Lmk about any new Costco finds you’ve gotten and loved recently!
Chances are you aren’t taking in enough carbs duri Chances are you aren’t taking in enough carbs during your training, which has an effect not only on your potential as a runner, but whether you even can have enough fuel on race day.

Lack of adequate carbs impacts intensity and how long you’ll be able to push yourself. If you don’t slowly work up to intra-workout carb recs and just go for it on race day with everything available on the course, you risk serious GI upset (see last reel).

We’ve already had several clients surpass their expectations at the Berlin marathon last weekend by working with our team of sports dietitians in advance. See what you need to change during training in our updated article by commenting “train your gut” and drop questions in the comments!
